Episode 7: Full-Ship Music Festival
Full-Ship Revelry: Neo Electro Swing Night
25 December 2300 — Pioneer-12, Residential Ring and Culture Ring
After the September debris incident, Pioneer-12 continued through deep space for several more months. Ship systems fully stabilized. But the incident occasionally resurfaced in everyone’s minds. Those months also brought something else: Evie and Firo’s relationship slowly changed. At first, only concert rehearsal. Then daily breakfasts, workouts, and old jazz records listened to together. Evie gradually realized Firo was not cold — he was simply too used to hiding what he felt.
A few days before Christmas, the two visited Pioneer-12’s vintage LP store. Firo bought an old Paris jazz LP. Evie bought a neon electro swing Christmas remix LP. “Only Vera would listen to this,” Firo said. Evie smiled. “Then let’s find Vera.”
The ship has organized a full Christmas celebration. The Culture Ring’s Main Stage is set up for a Neo Electro Swing Night — swing trumpet, techno bass, holographic snow falling across the ceiling of the Culture Ring. Three thousand passengers fill the space. Children run through the corridors in decorated coats. The cafes overflow. The promenade is lined with warm lights.
On the Main Stage, Evie performs to the full ship for the first time since boarding — not an official UN broadcast, just music for the people around her. Firo’s jazz band plays the opening set. The crowd dances. Vera DJs an after-party set in the Boiler Lounge. For one night, the long journey through deep space feels less like a crossing and more like a home — alive with sound, warmth, and the particular joy of people who have decided to celebrate anyway.
